Operator-Led Search

How Our
Program Works

NCA’s program offers experienced executives a structured opportunity to become part of our Operator-Led Search Fund Program, supported by a powerful in-house team of legal and business experts.

Selection & onboarding process

Step 1: Application Submission 01

NCA receives applications from prospective candidates throughout the year. Several Q&A sessions are available to help applicants better understand the Program and address preliminary questions.

Step 3: Orientation Call 03

Upon selection, candidates are invited to a 30-minute Orientation Call and provided with additional information. This call covers key Program details and includes a discussion of the candidate’s Investment Thesis (target industry, sector, and geography).

Step 4: Assessment Center Interview 04

Qualified candidates are invited to a 1-hour deep-dive discussion with a member of the Assessment Center Team. This conversation explores the candidate’s background, experience, and search strategy. Candidates must submit their Investment Thesis deck (max. 10 slides) via email in advance.

Step 5: Open House Webinar 05

Candidates are invited to a 60-minute ‘open house’ webinar with key NCA team members. This is an opportunity to ask questions anonymously through the Q&A function. Participation is strongly encouraged but optional.

Step 6: Program Review & Legal Q&A 06

Candidates review core Program documentation and a recorded session explaining key terms. Any questions must be submitted in advance via the online form, where they are reviewed by NCA’s Legal Team and addressed accordingly.

Step 7: Partner Conversation 07

Candidates are invited to a 45-minute conversation with one of NCA’s Partners to discuss the Program in greater depth, address any remaining questions, and further review their Investment Thesis (max. 10 slides excl. annex). This conversation also explores how their experience, network, and vision align with their search.

Step 8: Thesis Preparation Call 08

Candidates participate in a Thesis Preparation Call with a member of the Assessment Center Team to discuss required revisions to their Investment Thesis ahead of the panel. Prior to this call, they must complete an online assessment and review relevant training materials.

Step 9: NCA Assessment Center Panel 09

For the final stage, candidates prepare an investment memo based on a CIM provided by NCA and bring a presentation to defend their case before the panel. Both the assignment and their professional and personal fit are evaluated. Detailed instructions are shared at least one week in advance.

After the full evaluation is complete, a decision is made on whether to invite the candidate to join the Program.

Step 10: Onboarding Begins 10

If you are invited to join the Program following the Assessment Center, you will begin working closely with NCA’s Success Management Team to prepare for the fundraising phase. At this stage, you gain access to databases, industry reports, and additional Program resources to support your upcoming search.

Step 11: Search Phase Begins 11

After finalizing the program documentation and launching your SPV, you are officially an NCA Searcher!

Application timeline

Candidates may apply at any time, however applications are reviewed by NCA three times per year.
Each selection cycle takes approximately 12 weeks.

Month 1: Step 1, 2 & 3

Applications are received and reviewed by the NCA team. Applicants can register for Q&A sessions to better prepare their application. Candidates receive reading materials and an invitation to record a one-way video to complete their profile. Selected candidates are then invited to an Orientation Call to discuss their Investment Thesis (target industry, sector, and geography) and learn more about the Program.

Month 2: Step 4, 5 & 6

Selected candidates participate in a one-hour Assessment Center Interview with a member of NCA’s Assessment Center Team and are invited to attend the Open House Webinar. They also review Program documentation, a recorded session, and a legal overview deck. Legal questions are submitted in writing to the Legal Team and addressed over email.

Month 3: Step 7, 8 & 9

Candidates participate in a Partner Conversation to discuss their Investment Thesis and how their experience, network, and vision align with their search. They then join a Thesis Preparation Call with the Assessment Center Team, supported by online training materials and an assessment. In the final stage, candidates prepare a screening memo based on a CIM provided by NCA and defend their case before the Assessment Center Panel, where both their presentation and personal fit are evaluated.

Month 4: Step 10

Onboarding begins for selected candidates. During this phase, candidates work closely with the Success Management Team to prepare for fundraising, gaining access to databases, industry reports, and Program resources. NCA’s Legal Team finalizes background and reference checks, while the Marketing Team supports candidates in completing their website and marketing materials.

Month 5-6: Step 11

In this phase, Searchers sign an MOU, attend an in-person event, and finalize legal documentation to establish their search fund special purpose vehicle (SPV, LLC, or LP). NCA finances the Search Budget (with a contribution from Searchers) to cover living, administrative, and transaction-related expenses during the Search Phase. The Search Phase can begin immediately and may last up to 24 months.
